Channel 4 fans bewildered as broadcasting is stopped mid programme

Channel 4 suddenly went off air mid-programme.

Today, on Tuesday, February 14, the broadcasters were showing Countdown when the screen suddenly turned black. Soon after, a message appeared on screen which read "programmes continue shortly".

According to DownDetector.co.uk, hundreds of users reported the channel not working. Other users also reported issues with the app and 4 On Demand.

On Twitter, viewers were bewildered over what had happened. Dale said: "Well, looks like @Channel4 is having some technical difficulties. #Countdown froze and went black 10 minutes ago. There’s now a “Programmes continue shortly” screen. #Channel4."

Another user said: "It’s finally happened. I’ve watched too many episodes of #Countdown and broken #Channel4." Marie said: "What’s just happened to #channel4? Screen went black and now it’s just showing ‘programmes continue shortly’."

Channel 4 told the Liverpool ECHO: "We can confirm there was a brief interruption to our broadcasts which have since resumed. We are currently investigating to determine what happened."
