Channel 4 A Place in the Sun's Jasmine Harman sobs as buyers make decision

A Place in the Sun ended in tears tonight as Jasmine Harman became emotional.

The host helped Rita and Stephen, from Watford, find their dream holiday home in the Portuguese town of Albufeira. The couple had a budget of £150,000 to spend.

The buyers already knew that they loved the area - having visited over 40 times previously. They hoped for a property with a modern style, that wouldn't need doing up with one bedroom and an outdoor space.

During the first viewing Rita revealed the heart wrenching reason for wanting to make her dreams a reality. Her voice wobbled as she told Jasmine that living abroad was something that her mum always wanted to do.

The host said: "Aww. Is she... is she not here any more?" Holding back tears, Rita shook her head to signal no. Jasmine comforted the buyer as she said: "I'm sorry to hear that Rita.

"I think I understand now why this means so much for you, even more than before." Rita said: "You never know what's around the corner, do you?"

They finished looking around the home, as they slowly fell in love with it. The ground floor apartment was on the market for £144,000 and ticked all of the couple's boxes with a recent refurbishment, a large light filled open plan kitchen and living room, a sleeping space, a shower room, and a good sized garden.

As the search continued, it seemed clear that Rita and Stephen had their hearts set on the first home. They later revealed that they would like to make a "cheeky" offer on the property.

Rita said: “It’s going to be very cheeky, £130,000. We’re thinking we need to put in air-conditioning, heating, wardrobes and want to landscape the rest of the garden, we want to save some money."

After a tense wait their initial offer was rejected, but desperate to get their hands on the keys, the buyers upped their offer to £138,000. Before making the all important call, Jasmine said: "I know how much it means to you because of what you’d told me about your mum."

Rita replied: "She’d be so happy she really would, sure she’s looking down on us right now." Jasmine made the new offer as they all hoped for good news.

The programme ended in tears as Jasmine cried with the couple as their second offer was accepted. They all wiped away tears and hugged each other as they celebrated the good news.

However, the positive vibes didn't last long. Jasmine revealed at the end of the episode that the purchase of the apartment had fallen through a few weeks later.
