Channel 4 A Place in the Sun fans say show 'feels different' as they learn sad news

A Place in the Sun fans were distracted while watching today's episode for a very sad reason.

Jean Johansson was in La Zenia, Alicante as she helped house hunters Alan and Julie find the perfect holiday home. They were looking for a three-bed villa or townhouse close to amenities that suited their budget of £140,000.

However, viewer's minds were elsewhere as they watched the picky couple cut two viewings short before deciding to go home without making an offer - instead they decided to wait until they had sold their home back in England.

Normally fans would be quick to flood Twitter with funny comments about the buyers or what they think of the properties. But today their thoughts were elsewhere - with fellow presenter Jonnie Irwin.

After learning of the news that the property expert had been diagnosed with terminal cancer, fans said that the show now felt "very different." Others said that it didn't feel right to "take the mick" today.

One Twitter user said: "Hey folks, watching with a heavy heart today, thoughts with Jonnie, his wife and young family #aplaceinthesun." Fi said: "Afternoon folks, kind of a shadow over the show today, I'm still shocked about the news about Jonnie... thinking of him and his family. #aplaceinthesun."

Another user said: "Afternoon peeps. Doesn't feel like the sort of day to take the mick. Thoughts 100% with Jonnie and his family. #aplaceinthesun." A fourth added: "Afternoon 'placers. Going to feel like a very different #APlaceInTheSun today following the sad news of Jonnie Irwin's cancer diagnosis."
