The Supreme Court on February 2 agreed to consider an AAP councillor's request seeking urgent hearing of his plea Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud on Friday agreed to consider listing early a petition filed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Kuldeep Kumar challenging the BJP’s victory in the Chandigarh mayoral election.
In an oral mentioning before the Chief Justice of India, senior advocate A.M. Singhvi, for Mr. Kumar, alleged that the returning officer was caught on video smudging the ballots.
“We will list it... we will look at it,” Chief Justice Chandrachud said.
The BJP swept the Chandigarh mayoral polls, retaining all three posts, in a setback to the Congress-AAP alliance, which alleged that the presiding officer had tampered with the ballot papers.
Earlier this week, the Punjab and Haryana High Court refused to grant the AAP any interim relief. The AAP has sought fresh poll under the supervision of a retired judge.
