Champions League: PSG boss Enrique warns against complacency in Brest clash

Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique on Tuesday urged his players to dismiss their 3-0 first leg success over Brest in the Champions League play-offs and fight for victory in the return leg to secure a place in the last-16 knock-out stages.

"Brest are a well-built team that work well," said Enrique on the eve of the clash at the Parc des Princes.

"Their strength is the team and not the individuals, even though they have some quality players," he added.

"We're forgetting the result of the first leg, which is very positive of course. The only objective we have is to win on the night."

PSG's success on 11 February at the Municipal Du Roudourou came during an impressive run of form since the start of the year.

In their first game of 2025, Enrique's charges beat Monaco to claim the Trophée des Champions - the French Super Cup - for a record 13th time.

Enrique's side has won five and drawn once in their six Ligue 1 matches, negotiated two rounds of the Coupe de France, won two of their last games in the group stages of the Champions League and took a big step towards the last-16 knockout stages.

Success

"The result in the first leg was very good," Enrique added. "But Brest were able to create dangerous situations for us. They had chances. It's difficult to play them, it won't be an easy game. From the very first minute of the game, we'll be going for it."

PSG, who reached the semi-finals last season, have been fixtures in the Champions League since the Qatari Sports Investment group took full control of the club in March 2012.

Brest are playing for the first time in European club football's most prestigious tournament and qualified for the play-offs after finishing their eight games in the group stages in 18th place with 13 points.

"It was already a bit of a mission impossible before the first leg," said Brest midfielder Pierre Lees-Melou. "But for the second leg it's going to be even more so. But we're playing for Brest. There's one match left, 90 minutes, you never know."

His teammate, Ludovic Ajorque, echoed the defiance. "We're going to the Parc des Princes to play the best game possible and show that we can learn from this kind of confrontation.

"We're not at this stage by chance," Ajorque added. "We're going there to try and win the game."

Even though PSG have beaten Brest 5-2 and 3-0 in their last two outings, Enrique said he refused to take the tie lightly.

"I don't go to any match relaxed, it's not in my DNA," said the 53-year-old Spaniard. "There's no such thing as a relaxed position, either Brest or Paris will be eliminated, it's impossible to be relaxed."
