Challenge Cup round-up as Halifax Panthers stun unbeaten Featherstone Rovers

Halifax Panthers produced a cup upset on Sunday evening, beating Featherstone Rovers 18-22 at Post Office Road.

A gutsy, spirited performance from Fax earned them a place in the Challenge Cup fourth round. Tries from Matty Gee, Lachlan Walmsley, Tom Inman and Louis Jouffret sealed a famous victory over their West Yorkshire rivals. Josh Hardcastle of Featherstone was sent-off with five minutes to play for a kick on a Fax player.

On Saturday, Hunslet ARLFC, Rochdale Mayfield, London Broncos, Widnes Vikings and Midlands Hurricanes got over the line and put their names into the hat. The Hurricanes were run close by NCL side Orrell St. James in an ill-disciplined affair that the semi-professional side edged 12-19. Widnes put 80 past London-based side Wests Warriors, but a valiant effort by the team from the capital.

In Sunday's games, the early kick-off saw Newcastle Thunder beat Stanningley 16-58 and North Wales Crusaders as they survived a scare from Thatto Heath, eventually winning 10-18. Batley thumped Wath Brow Hornets, and their Heavy Woollen rivals Dewsbury Rams also went through after defeating fellow League One side Rochdale Hornets.

Championship outfits Sheffield Eagles, Bradford Bulls, Keighley Cougars and York RLFC all won, plus Doncaster, who scored a last-minute winning to break Workington Town's hearts thanks to a try from Tom Halliday.

The draw for the fourth and fifth rounds will take place on Wednesday at Millom ARLFC, who are celebrating their 150th anniversary. Super League teams enter in the sixth round, which is scheduled to be played on the weekend of May 20/21.
