AN INMATE at a Hunter jail has been charged with selling $24,000 worth of illegal drugs inside the correctional facility.
Specialist detectives homed in on Ryan Jeffrey Kenney as part of a length strike force investigation into drug supply rings using 'dial-a-dealer' phones across Sydney.
Police uncovered a syndicate allegedly operating within a correctional facility at Cessnock in the Hunter Valley.
Strike Force Wessex detectives arrested the 35-year-old man at a correctional facility in Cessnock on Wednesday, August 21.
Police alleged Kenney received drugs during contact visits at the prison, then sold them inside the correctional facility.
The estimated street value of the drugs was $24,000, according to police.
Kenney was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with two counts of supplying a prohibited drug, and participating in a criminal group.
He made no bid for bail in Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday and it was formally refused.
The case was adjourned to September 4. He has not been required to enter pleas.
Two men were arrested earlier this year and four others, two men and two women, were arrested earlier in August and all remain before the courts.
