Cesc Fabregas snubs Chelsea for Liverpool as potential transfer destination for £59m midfield star

Former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has claimed that he would “like” to see Monaco youngster Aurelien Tchouameni play for Liverpool or Bayern Munich in the future. It comes as the 35-year-old is set to leave the French club, where he played alongside the young star.

The promising 22-year-old has reportedly been a long-term target for the Blues, impressing again this season in Ligue 1 with 34 appearances, with CIES Football Observatory valuing him as highly as €70million (£59million). The Frenchman has guided his side to second in the standings, winning himself a handful of international caps too.

Interest from the West London outfit comes ahead of a huge summer for Thomas Tuchel, with the German coach looking to freshen up some of the squad. The transfer plans will, however, be dependent on the vision of the prospective new owners.

“You ask many times if we have a delay in approaching players and making plans, of course, a huge delay,” Tuchel said in his pre-match press conference for Leicester. “We are affected by it, players are going out. We are rebuilding, not improving the squad. We are rebuilding. This is always challenging, but we are up for the challenge.

"I don't know where we are from day one. What I can promise is that I will be here – if I can promise that – I will be here with full energy and positive energy no matter what. We will still work for Chelsea, and I refuse to think of negative scenarios. We will be competitive, on which level we will see.”

One area that the manager could look to bolster is the midfield ranks, with duo N’Golo Kante and Jorginho heading into their final year of their contract. With a number of options out there, Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni could be towards the top of that list.

However, former player Fabregas has claimed that he would like to see the youngster at Liverpool or Bayern Munich. Discussing his time at the French club, he told RMC Sport: "When I came, Thierry (Henry) and Vadim (Vasilyev) also asked me to help grow the young people. It was an important point. Today, I feel like I have won the respect and sympathy of this younger generation.

"I hope I have helped. We like each other (smiles). I will continue to follow them, exchange with them. I would like to see Fofana, Diop or Tchouameni at Bayern [Munich] or Liverpool!"

Given his influence in helping the youngsters out during his time at the club, his words could well sway their decision making. If so, the Blues will want to work as quickly as possible to secure the promising midfielder for themselves.
