Cesar Azpilicueta reveals all on Arsenal confrontation after defeat at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has insisted the argument he had with a section of fans following the defeat to Arsenal at Stamford Bridge looked "worse than it was". The 32-year-old looked to be involved in a heated discussion with sections of the crowd as Thomas Tuchel's men slumped to a 4-2 home defeat back on April 20.

With tensions rising around the club following the ongoing talks surrounding a new potential owner, the club captain has moved to clear up the images that were shared after the game.

With Azpilicueta netting to draw the game level at 2-2, whilst also conceding a late penalty for a foul on Bukayo Saka, the defender insisted his emotions ultimately got the better of him.

''It looked worse than it was. It was at the end of the game and I was angry with my performance, I was angry with the result, with the penalty and everything,'' he told Sky Sports.

''I spotted him in the crowd but nothing to do with him, it was just an exchange of words and it looked worse than it was.

''We spoke clearly that he wanted more fight from the team and he was right and I just expressed my view that in this moment, everybody, we were having a moment of difficulty.

''We were having 15 (thousand) people less in the stadium, we were in a moment of difficulty and we needed to push altogether in the same direction."

Azpilicueta has since admitted he saw the same fan again and offered a kind gesture as his way of apologising for his passionate actions.

He added: ''The other day after the game, I saw him again, I gave him the captain's armband and I think when there's respect and I'm the first that I look at the images and it's not really me, I was really angry.''
