When it comes to treating our acne and spots with care, many products on the high street - especially those available on prescription, tend to be pretty drying. And that includes products containing salicylic acid, AHAs, benzoyl peroxide and retinoids too.
Thankfully CeraVe have created a brand new, and affordable range of products that have been specifically designed as an affordable and accessible solution for blemish-prone skin!
Within the range are two new products - a cleanser and a targeted spot treatment. Adding to their already extensive skincare range that targets all skin types - from dry to oily, rough and bumpy to now spot prone too!
The CeraVe Blemish Control Cleanser is alcohol free, pH balanced and has a gel-to-foam formula specifically for facial use. It combines acne-fighting ingredients to remove dirt and oil while preventing new breakouts, plus three essential ceramides to maintain the skin’s barrier.
As for the Blemish Control Gel, it’s CeraVe’s first alcohol and oil-free once-daily gel treatment to clear imperfections and reduce visible acne in three days, without damaging the skin barrier. Using a blend of active ingredients and ceramides, MVE technology slowly releases the ingredients to provide 8-hour hydration – and it’ll never dry skin out.
Speaking with CeraVe consultant dermatologist Dr Alexis Granite - she said, “It’s important to strike a delicate balance between efficacy and potential for irritation. So when acne-fighting ingredients in strong products are overused, sensitivity and irritation can occur, leading to either more breakouts and/or product intolerance.”
Supporting and maintaining the skin barrier is a key consideration in every product that CeraVe formulates, even more so in the Blemish Control range. “All products, especially acne-targeted products, have the potential to be used too often – which can lead to dryness and irritation,” says Dr Granite. “However, this range is formulated with emollients, such as ceramides and anti-inflammatory ingredients to reduce the risk of irritation. In addition, MVE technology means ingredients are released slowly over time so hydration is maintained throughout the day.”
While many acne treatments are only good for targeted treatment and application, the Blemish Control range can be used as a preventative measure, too. “One of the most important factors I discuss with my patients when it comes to treating acne is consistency,” says Dr Granite. “Unfortunately, acne is a skin condition we control, not cure, so it's essential to continue the use of acne-targeted products even when skin is clear in order to prevent new breakouts.”
So you can say goodbye to expensive treatments and hello to your new skincare routine that should hopefully help clear up any acne, unwanted spots and excessively oily patches of skin too!
