Visitors have just days left to take advantage of discounted tickets for Life Science Centre in Newcastle before it closes for the bulk of January.
The city attraction in Times Square will be shutting its doors on January 9, for three weeks of work and upgrades, so families are being urged to fit in a visit now. And they will be able to take advantage of a special offer allowing entry for just £5.
The Festive Fiver ticket price, which reflects the entry cost at the time Life first opened 22 years ago, is aimed at helping out cash-strapped families currently facing financial pressures. The venue's chief executive Linda Conlon said: “We recognise that with the rising cost of living, it’s a tough time for everyone.

“In a bid to support families this winter, we’ve dropped our ticket prices so they are in line with what was charged in 2000 when the centre was opened by Queen Elizabeth II." The £5 ticket offer applies to both adults and children and will be running until January 8, the day before Life's temporary closure.
This is necessary for maintenance work to take place on the site and for added work on the attraction's Space Zone - which is currently closed - to make way for a new hands-on interactive area with extra exhibits. Life is set to reopen on January 29, in time for the February half-term.
Linda added that the ticket discount also "takes into consideration that some of our areas are currently undergoing refurbishment." But there still will be plenty for visitors to enjoy, such as a live show with demonstrations; the planetarium showing the north's winter skies and activities.
These include opportunities to make and take home a UV silhouette print and - for over-sevens - a chance to play a forensic detective. Among the venue's attractions for younger visitors are pop-up play areas such as a mini-kitchen and café as well as spaces to build and to experiment with light.
In addition, Life's seasonal ice rink in Times Square will remain open up to and incuding January 15. There's a separate cost for this and booking is recommended.
