The Boston Celtics completed a flurry of trades during Thursday’s NBA draft, flipping the newly acquired No. 25 pick and turning it into multiple second-round picks and Arkansas wing Jordan Walsh. Boston kept kicking the stone down the road, acquiring multiple future assets in the process.
The moves began with a trade that sent the recently acquired No. 25 pick to the Detroit Pistons for the No. 31 pick and two future second round selections. Boston then flipped that No. 31 selection to the Charlotte Hornets for the No. 34 pick and No. 39 pick. The Celtics weren’t done yet.
The Celtics later traded the No. 34 pick to the Sacramento Kings for the No. 38 pick and a future second-rounder. Boston used that pick to draft Walsh before swapping the No. 39 to the Atlanta Hawks for yet another future second-round selection.
This means Boston turned the No. 25 pick in the 2023 NBA draft into an interesting defensive-minded wing, Jordan Walsh, and four future second round picks.
The Celtics were slated to select in the second round on Thursday night, but moved their No. 35 pick as part of the larger deal that sent Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies and shipped Kristaps Porzingis up to Boston. The trade netted the Celts the No. 25 pick, which Boston later flipped for multiple future assets and an intriguing young player.
