Celtics’ Malcolm Brogdon is a weak candidate to extend with Boston

Much attention is being paid to a potential contract extension for the Boston Celtics’ new starting point guard, veteran floor general Derrick White. But there is another key player in the Celtics’ backcourt who is not getting anywhere near the same chatter about an extension. That would be veteran point guard Malcolm Brogdon.

Even though Brogdon won last season’s Sixth Man of the Year award for his elite play for the Celtics off their bench, top NBA cap analysts are not expecting an extension to get done between him and Boston.

Among them is HoopsHype’s Yossi Gozlan, who graded the possibility as “weak” in a recent assessment of extension-eligible players around the league next season.

“Malcolm Brogdon had a strong season with the Celtics, but they will probably hold off on an extension to keep him trade eligible,” suggests Gozlan.

“An extension seems extremely unlikely now after they agreed to trade him to the Clippers in a deal that fell through.”
