Hall of Fame big men Bill Russell and Kevin Garnett are forever linked by a bond through their status as Boston Celtics champions, and Russell was as big a supporter and mentor for Garnett as anyone before the Celtics forward finally made the leap as Boston won Banner 17 in 2008.
Russell believed in the Big Ticket so much that he once offered to share one of his 11 titles with Garnett if the hard-working big man never won one of his own. Luckily for us all, that was not necessary, but an account of the ties that bound the two Celtics icons together most certainly is.
“I always said you were my favorite player to watch,” related the elder Celtic star to the younger.
Check out the clip put together by the team after Russell’s passing this past weekend that memorialized the ties between the two Boston legends for yourself in the clip embedded above.
