Celtics’ Jordan Walsh on getting advice from Al Horford, working out with Derrick White

Jordan Walsh may be a rookie, but given how he’s tackling his new role with the Boston Celtics, you’d hardly know it. He’s been keeping busy with the team, signing autographs while helping introduce a basketball court makeover sponsored by the Celtics in Worcester, where CLNS Media caught up with the Texan wing.

Walsh has also reached out to his new teammates to pick their brains about how he can support the title push this season, and adapt to NBA life. “I’ve been talking to Al (Horford), and he’s been talking to me about being professional, showing up every day to work hard, and knowing that this first year is going to be bumpy,” said Walsh.

“Being a rookie, it’s always a transition, but he says as long as I work hard, we have a good team, a good group of guys who will take care of me in a way, and leave me in a way that’s going to help my career in the future,” he added, noting he’d seen most of the team save Malcolm Brogdon and Blake Griffin, who is still mulling a return to the team and league.

The former Arkansas forward has been working with freshly-minted starting floor general Derrick White in practice, which he spoke on as well. “Today, I was playing matches up against Derrick White the whole practice,” he explained. “Even playing defense against someone like him, I always have something to learn.”

“And for him being a leader of the team, being a point guard who steps into that point guard role, there’s a lot I could take from him, and I was happy to get a chance to play with him.”
