Celtics' Jaylen Brown Seemed to Take Shot at Refs With Comical Buffalo Wild Wings Reference

Jaylen Brown had a hilarious way of digging at a brutal missed call at the end of the Boston Celtics’ loss to the Indiana Pacers on Monday night.

In a tie game in the closing seconds, Brown drove baseline and rose up for a midrange jump shot. In doing so, he was clearly hit in the back of the head by Buddy Hield, who was trying to defend the shot. Hield was initially called for a foul that would have sent Brown to the free throw line, but the call was overturned upon further review despite the contact being obvious.

Brown clearly wasn’t pleased about the decision, but got creative to take aim at the referees by alluding to a more than decade-old Buffalo Wild Wings ad campaign. The old commercials joked about work being done behind the scenes to extend games into overtime, like this classic ad from the early 2010s. Here’s what Brown tweeted, with highlights of the questionable call attached:

Brown wasn’t the only one upset with the call, which eventually led to a 133-131 loss for the Celtics. LeBron James shared a tweet Tuesday morning in disbelief over the reversal of the call, relating it back to missed calls he’s been frustrated with throughout his career.

Not everyone got the Buffalo Wild Wings reference from Brown, but those that did loved it. The official BWW account even chimed in.
