The Boston Celtics will face the Detroit Pistons at TD Garden Wednesday night with two players potentially sitting out the contest, according to the team. The Celtics announced on Wednesday morning that both veteran point guard Marcus Smart and starting big man Robert Williams III were to be downgraded to doubtful on the team’s injury report against Detroit.
Smart had been dealing with a non-COVID illness, and decided to play in the Celtics’ Tuesday night tilt with the Philadelphia 76ers anyway, spraining his right ankle in the process. Williams, dealing with nagging tightness in his calf, is also a potential scratch due to the persistence of that issue.
So long as Boston continues to play the brand of movement-oriented defensive basketball that they have been of late, they should handle lottery-bound Detroit with ease.

But anything looking like the game the team put forth in the first half of the season and all bets are off — we are inclined to believe a ten-game winning streak is a more likely outcome after what we saw on Tuesday, however.
