Welcome to Bet For The Win’s Nightly NBA Player Props. Throughout the 2022-23 season, we look at some of the night’s biggest games and come up with bets to make as we predict how players might perform.
It’s simple — if we like where the player’s line is set, we take the over, otherwise, we take the under.
The highlight of Thursday’s NBA slate is unquestionably the 7:30 p.m. ET between the Boston Celtics and L.A. Clippers in Beantown. Both teams are healthy and playing good basketball, which should make for an awesome matchup between star-studded teams.
Ahead of this matchup, here are some players from each team you should consider betting on in this big showdown.
All odds via BetMGM.
Nicolas Batum - Over 1.5 3-Pointers Made (+105)
After a slow start to the season, Batum is up to 42.4 percent shooting from beyond the arc (a career-best mark). He’s mostly spent his time as the Clippers’ backup center, though he occasionally fills into the starting lineup when the team is depleted with injuries.
But the bottom line is Batum is on the court often and plays well in just about any lineup. He’s made at least two threes in 10 of his last 12 games and should see several open looks against Boston as Kawhi Leonard and Paul George draw attention from the defense. I’m confident he’ll make multiple threes tonight.
Kawhi Leonard - Over 3.5 Assists (+105)
When the Clippers played the Celtics earlier this month, Boston often opted to guard Kawhi Leonard straight up without sending a second defender to help. The result? 10-12 from the field with 25 points. He’s proven that he’s still very much capable of isolating his way into buckets as he did at a high clip before the ACL injury, so expect the Celtics to mix up the coverages against him this time around.
Leonard’s registered more than 3.5 assists in eight of the 12 games he’s started this season, which includes six against Boston a couple of weeks ago. He’ll find his guys and they’ll make shots. Over 3.5 assists is a bet I suggest making.
Jayson Tatum - Over 7.5 Rebounds (-140)
Jayson Tatum may very well be the current MVP frontrunner and it isn’t only because he’s a fantastic scorer. His defense has been very good and he’s also finishing defensive possession with rebounds. Tatum is averaging 8.5 rebounds per game during December and has notched over 7.5 boards seven times in that span.
With the Clippers being a relatively small team outside of Ivica Zubac, there will be plenty of lineups on the floor that could lead to impressive rebounding numbers from Tatum. Take the over.
Norman Powell - Over 13.5 Points (-115)
Norman Powell’s last ten games:
- 20.8 points per game
- 54.1 field goal percentage
- 2.5 3-pointers made per game
- 49.0 3-point percentage
Powel’s been one of the most important Clippers and is currently enjoying the best stretch of basketball of this season. He’s finished north of 13.5 points in six-straight games and shouldn’t have a problem doing so against Boston on Thursday night.
