Celtics at Spurs: Boston survives San Antonio 121-116 sans Marcus Smart, second half focus

The Boston Celtics came to San Antonio to face the Spurs as they closed out the final contest of their current four-game road trip, and started the game looking like they had learned their lesson about playing down to teams after their drubbing by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

But the team nearly let go of the rope in the second half, eking out a 121-116 victory in the game’s final seconds with a big boost from Robert Williams III (10 points, 11 rebounds, 4 blocks) and Malcolm Brogdon (23 points, 7 assists) after Marcus Smart exited the game with a knee contusion. Big games from Jayson Tatum (34 points) and Jaylen Brown (29 points) helped secure the win, but the duo combined for just 4 assists as a worrying trend continued.

Let’s take a look at some of the best plays captured in images from the Celtics’ 40th game of their 2022-23 campaign.
