Celtic youngster Adam Montgomery set to complete Scottish Premiership loan switch

Celtic youngster Adam Montgomery set to complete Scottish Premiership loan switch

CELTIC youngster Adam Montgomery is set to complete a loan switch to St Johnstone.

The 19-year-old enjoyed some first-team experience with Ange Postecoglou’s side last term before heading to Aberdeen in January.

He went on to make eight appearances during his loan stint at Pittodrie and Hoops chiefs are now keen for him to add further Premiership minutes away from Parkhead.

Callum Davidson is keen to add the versatile Montgomery to his squad as cover for his left side.

The Scotland youth international can play either left back or as a left sided midfielder.

Meanwhile, Saints are set to announce the signing of Graham Carey.

The former St Mirren and Ross County man had joined the Perth outfit for their pre-season preparations in Murcia in Spain.

The 33-year-old has been plying his trade in Bulgaria for the past three seasons with CSKA Sofia, but is out of contract at the end of this month.

Carey’s preferred position is in a number 10 role and he could provide Saints with a much-needed spark from midfield that they have missed since David Wotherspoon picked up a cruciate injury in November last year.

Davidson has already added Drey Wright and Andrew Considine to his McDiarmid Park ranks this window.

The Saints boss will look to add further with key first-team stars Shaun Rooney, Jamie McCart, Callum Hendry and Zander Clark all departing this summer.
