Celtic 'want' loan for Liverpool defender to cover injury pile-up

Celtic are reportedly closing in on a loan move for Nat Phillips.

The Times reports that the 26-year-old Liverpool fringe player is edging towards a season-long loan at Parkhead.

Brendan Rodgers desperately wants to bolster his defensive options given the volume of injuries his side currently faces.

Cameron Carter-Vickers, Maik Nawrocki, and Stephen Welsh are all out of action for the next two months.

And it seems Liverpool defender Phillips is the answer.

He played just 66 minutes of Premier League football last season. He has picked up vital first-team minutes at Stuggart and Bournemouth in recent years too.

The towering centre back is the son of former Rangers player Jimmy Phillips. He played for the Ibrox club between 1987 and 88.

Celtic are expected to be very busy during the final few days of the transfer market.

A deal for Luis Palma has been agreed with Aris. It is worth £3.5million, although an official announcement of the transfer has yet to be made.

As well as another centre back, it's thought that Rodger would also like more competition at left back and another striker.

It comes as Celtic received a 'significant' six-figure bid for one of their top talents.

It's reported that Rocco Vata is expected to leave the club.

The 18-year-old is the subject of strong interest from Torino and Club Brugge, however, it's not clear who has submitted the bid.
