Celtic vs Rangers ticket allocation revealed as away fans given green light for Parkhead showdown

Celtic and Rangers have set away allocations for the derby clashes this season, according to a report.

The number of away fans allowed in for derby day has been an ongoing issues between the clubs with Rangers initially cutting the away fans allocation at Ibrox following the arrival of Steven Gerrard in the summer of 2018. The Light Blues said it was down to a record demand for season tickets with the appointment of England and Liverpool legend Gerrard, which would spark Celtic to hand their rivals a similar amount of tickets.

The Scottish Premiership meeting between the teams in March 2020 was scrapped as the Covid-19 pandemic escalated and supporters missed out on the chance to attend with Neil Lennon's side closing in on the title. Both sides would then shut out away fans amid restrictions relating to the virus during the the first two encounters between the Glasgow giants.

However, Parkhead fans were back at Ibrox on April 3 in what was the first derby to feature away fans since 2019. The Hoops would then allow Rangers fans back into Celtic Park in the final derby clash of the season.

That trend looks set to continue for the first showdown between the rivals the term on September 3 in Glasgow's east end. The Rangers Review state that ticket allocations for Old Firm games will remain the same this season.

That would see Rangers fans handed well below 1000 tickets for the trip to Parkhead, while the Celtic support will take up just 700 seats in Govan. The allocation remains well short of the near 7500 traditionally handed out in years gone by.
