Celtic 'very impressive' as Brendan Rodgers crop comparison made by Aberdeen star Graeme Shinnie

Graeme Shinnie has branded Ange Postecoglou's Celtic 'very impressive' as he compared the current crop to facing Brendan Rodgers' outfit.

The Aberdeen loanee returned north of the border his former club in one of Jim Goodwin's final acts in charge of the Pittodrie side. He was in from the start as interim boss Barry Robson watched his side lose out 4-0 in a totally dominant and relentless performance from the Scottish champions.

Celtic captain Callum McGregor fired the home side ahead inside the opening two minutes before Reo Hatate doubled their tally just over ten minutes later. He grabbed his second in the latter stages of the second period with Liel Abada rounding off the scoring at Parkhead. Shinnie has come up against Rodgers' impressive Celtic teams of the past as he hinted the current set-up and crop are better than the previous side.

He said: "The manager has them playing a different style of football to what I have been used to, going there, especially. They have inverted full-backs and try to make overloads in areas of the pitch.

"I thought they were very good. I played against Brendan Rodgers’ teams who were very dominant and very good, but I feel this Celtic side is very impressive."

The four goal triumph keeps Celtic nine points ahead of Rangers at the top of the Premiership ahead of the duo going head to head at Hampden this weekend.

Michael Beale remains unbeaten since replacing Giovanni van Bronckhorst at the Ibrox helm while Postecoglou and Co are on a long run without defeat themselves. It sets up a blockbuster occasion in Mount Florida this weekend with the first domestic trophy up for grabs.

Both sides are also in the quarter-final stage of the Scottish Cup with Rangers paired at home against Raith Rovers while Celtic face a tricky trip to Tynecastle to face Hearts.
