Celtic ultras group ‘Bhoys Celtic’ has issued a strong statement condemning what it describes as the “over-policing, unnecessary escalation, and abuse of powers” by Police Scotland towards football supporters in recent months.
The fan group, which celebrated its 10th anniversary last weekend, claims that police have increasingly resorted to “confrontation and harassment” rather than addressing wider failings within football governance and law enforcement.
Bhoys Celtic highlighted Sunday’s events, where both Celtic’s Green Brigade and Rangers supporter groups were held in “police kettles” for extended periods ahead of the Old Firm clash at Celtic Park.
(Image: Bhoys Celtic) Rangers fans were reportedly forced to comply with searches and provide personal details before being allowed entry to the match, while Green Brigade members who refused were held for over five hours, causing them to miss the game entirely.
The group revealed it was forced to alter its anniversary plans at the last minute to avoid similar treatment, accusing police of deliberately disrupting their celebrations.

Bhoys Celtic are now calling on all supporter groups from across the country to document instances of what they describe as “heavy-handed policing” and push for greater political and legal accountability.
With Scotland boasting one of the highest per capita attendances in European football, the group warns that the “alienation of the next generation of working-class football fans is not something to be taken lightly.”
Police Scotland has yet to respond to the accusations.
