Premiership champions Celtic have kicked off sparring with rivals Rangers in earnest by trolling them over their Sydney Super Cup withdrawal.
Everton have been confirmed as the fourth participants in the showpiece event in November after the Ibrox side pulled out amid sustained criticism from their support. But Celtic weren't ready to let their city foes off the hook by telling supporters the inclusion of Frank Lampard's Toffees has taken the tournament to the next level.
The tweet read: "The Sydney Super Cup just got bigger and better! #CelticFC will play @Everton at Sydney's @AccorStadium on Nov 20 2022! The Bhoys will also play @SydneyFC on Nov 17 in one of the first major matches to take place at the brand new @AllianzStadium @TEGSport."
Rangers were hit with tennis ball protests from supporters who felt they were making up the numbers amid the tournament being billed as Ange Postecoglou 's homecoming. Many supporters on both sides had reservations about one of the world's fiercest rivalries taking place in a glamour friendly.
The tournament is taking place ahead of the World Cup with a host of Parkhead stars set to be in action with their country.
