New Celtic recruit Moritz Jenz has revealed a move to Celtic very nearly happened last summer.
The German defender has arrived at Parkhead on a season-long loan deal from Ligue 1 club Lorient with the Hoops holding an option to buy next year once this season comes to a conclusion. This summer could have been Jenz celebrating his first 12 months at Celtic had things panned out differently when he was mapping out his exit from Lausanne.
Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt arrived in central defence for boss Ange Postecoglou last year for their Premiership title-winning season but the German was another one of their targets. He has stated a transfer was very close to completion but he's happy it's done this time around.
Speaking to fan media, he said: “It was very close, but at the end it just didn’t go over the line, unfortunately. It would be my dream to stay at Celtic definitely.”

Jenz added: "We’ve had many conversations, since last year, but also before I came over the last few weeks. He’s a great manager, he has specific ideas about me as a player and his plans, so that was very striking for me.
“I hope it will be a long-term thing because for me, it’s a dream. I hope I can do my best for the club. Anywhere you go, you have to make a quick impact.”
Daizen Maeda, Benjamin Siegrist, Alexandro Bernabei, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota and Aaron Mooy have also signed permanently at Celtic this summer.
