Celtic transfer update as Postecoglou confirms two players 'expected' to sign this week

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that his side should have two new faces this time next week, if all goes to plan.

The Australian watched as his Celtic side played out a 2-2 draw with English Championship side Blackburn Rovers in their fourth pre-season friendly of the summer on Saturday, their first at Parkhead. Whilst pleased with what his group put into it, he's keen to bring in a couple more additions to help them out ahead of a Premiership title defence and Champions League football this season.

Already, Daizen Maeda, Benjamin Siegrist, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Alexandro Bernabei and Jota have signed permanent deals, but Postecoglou says two more should arrive at Parkhead in the next week. The Hoops boss told Celtic TV : "We’re definitely going to add a couple of players. We’re working on that but would expect to do that in the next seven days. I’m confident we’re close to the end point in bringing in a couple which will help.

"We had to be patient and that was much more important than rushing. The squad is looking really good but we want to make sure we don’t lose our effectiveness when a couple are missing.

"We had a pretty hectic schedule last year. The reality is we’ll play close to 60 games. Champions League on a weekly basis will add stress to the squad which is why I’m keen to bring in a couple more, to make sure we’re strong and robust.

"I thought the first half was good in terms of our competitiveness and our performance, both teams were at it and we conceded early but then we got a good grip of the game.

"In the second half it got scrappy but both teams made a lot of substitutions so it’s hard to get into the rhythm for the players coming on."
