Celtic transfer target still tearing up the MLS, scored huge goal against former Celt

During the summer transfer window, one name that was heavily linked with Celtic was Mateusz Bogusz, a 23-year-old forward from Poland who currently plays for MLS side Los Angeles FC.

Towards the end of the window, it was reported LAFC's asking price was in the vicinity of £10m, therefore when Arne Engels (£11m), Auston Trusty (£6m) and Luke McCowan (£1m) all came through the door on deadline day – not to mention Adam Idah's earlier £8.5m acquisition – interest in Bogusz appeared to taper out.

Whether or not Brendan Rodgers returns for the striker in future transfer windows remains to be seen, but with 20 goals and 10 assists this year over 47 appearances, Bogusz has continued to impress overseas.

Prior to the most recent international break, Bogusz scored the decisive goal for LAFC in their 1-0 MLS Cup Playoff fourth round replay win over Vancouver Whitecaps – after which Bogusz was named Man of the Match.

Vancouver Whitecaps is where Ryan Gauld and former Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong now reside, with the latter having swapped Southampton for the MLS outfit in the summer.

By way of the official MLS YouTube channel, here's highlights of that encounter, including Bogusz's vital goal:

When asked about Celtic's prior interest during an LAFC press conference shortly after the transfer window had closed, Bogusz said he was aware of the interest from Glasgow, but stressed he doesn't pay attention to speculation.

He said: "Of course I knew about that. I just try to not get involved in this situation, I was focussed on playing for LAFC.

"There was possible movement for me, but at the end of the day I stayed here and I am very happy. I am looking to finish the season in first place (in the Western Conference) and get to the final, and win the final. That is all I can say about this situation."
