Celtic transfer news bulletin as Kings Kangwa blushes at interest and Leicester connection tipped to bank Rodgers £20m

Reported Celtic target Kings Kangwa is waiting to see what his future holds - but says his long-term ambition is to land in the English Premier League.

The second Brendan Rodgers era is moving fast and it seems the returning boss is looking to use his Leicester connections to refresh things at Parkhead. Bringing in players he's worked with previously has always been a go-to move and Daniel Amartey, available on a free after their relegation to the Championship, appears to tick a few boxes.

The 28-year-old filled a few positions for Rodgers at Leicester and while there are understandable question marks over whether he offers an improvement at centre-back or in midfield, Frank McAvennie reckons he could be turned around for a cool £20m if he shows what he can do at Celtic Park. He told Football Insider: "That is the kind of player that Brendan is going to want. The Premier League is a fierce league, it is the best league in the world and it is a lot harder to make it down there than people think it is.

“He might not be getting in the Leicester team but he could come to Scotland and be a revelation. They can get him for nothing and if he does well they will sell him for £20m, that has been the blueprint of Celtic for years. He needs game time and he will get it at Celtic."

That valuation might seem steep but one player who most certainly is worth the money being mooted is Arsenal's Kieran Tierney. Chatter on Wednesday morning is that Tierney is open to a move back to Parkhead but given he earns £125,000 a week and Arsenal stand to bank £35m by selling him, a lot would need to fall into place for Arsenal to sanction that one.

A more realistic target may be Zambian midfielder Kings Kangwa. The playmaker was linked earlier in the window and he also has interest from the English Premier League amid his stunning form for Red Star Belgrade. Speaking to media in his homeland, he gave an honest assessment of where he sees his future.

Kangwa said: “It’s every player’s dream to play in the EPL. Let’s wait and see. If a chance comes to play in the EPL, why not take it?”

“We shall cross the bridge when we get there. I am humbled by the interest I am receiving. Otherwise, I will continue to work hard until I reach the level I want to play.”
