Celtic transfer news as Vasilis Barkas exit 'falls through' and Boli Bolingoli decision made

Celtic’s hopes of Vasilis Barkas leaving this month have reportedly been dashed after Sheffield United pulled out of a deal.

The Greek stopper has made just two appearances under Ange Postecoglou with Joe Hart and Scott Bain both preferred to the £5million man.

He's been linked with various moves with rumblings of interest in Turkey, Greece and Sweden but Postecoglou has insisted he is in no rush to move players on.

Now the Daily Mail report that Sheffield United were in talks over a deal, but pulled out after Celtic demanded a loan fee and also wanted the Blades to pick up the bulk of his £20,000 weekly wage.

The Hoops also wanted a £2.5m option to buy while United hoped to include a cheaper fee.

The Mail also say that Celtic will look to move out Boli Bolingoli with the left-back unsettled with his role at Celtic Park.

Speaking on potential outgoings earlier in the window, Ange Postecoglou said he won't force anyone out - though admitted the club are likely to see some players leave on loan.

"Nobody needs to go out," he said. "We are not forcing anyone out the door. It's just that some players need to go out on loan to continue their development because it is important to us.

"Other players who have not had an opportunity might look elsewhere to get game time but we don't have to push anyone out we are not forcing anyone to leave. From our perspective, it is about making that our younger players develop and we have a couple of the younger ones out on loan.

"We are hopeful of getting a couple more out on loan in this window. An important part of any young players development is playing regularly. We are working towards that and if anyone else finds a better opportunity elsewhere in the current squad that thinks it will be better for them then if we can help them we will make it happen."

Meanwhile Celtic kids Ben Doak and Mitchell Frame continue to attract interest from the English Premier League.

Record Sport reported earlier this week that 16-year-old Doak is being eyed by Liverpool while Newcastle, Brighton and Crystal Palace are all keen on Frame.

Reports down south suggest that interest is motoring on with Doak's name in particular making the headlines.
