Celtic are closing in on a new defender with Moritz Jenz set to join on a season-long loan deal, according to a report.
The Lorient defender has spent the past season in France's top tier but has struggled to make a real breakthrough in Ligue 1 following his switch from Laussane-Sport last summer. Ange Postecoglou is in the market to add further reinforcements to his ranks and Football Scotland claim the 23-year-old is set to get the chance to reboot his career at Parkhead.
The season-long loan agreement could include an option to buy with both clubs believed to be thrashing out that key term ahead of a switch to the Scottish champions, which will reportedly be done as early as this week.
Carl Starfelt built a strong relationship at the heart of the Celtic backline with Cameron Carter-Vickers - who has since joined on a permanent basis - but with the Swede still working his way back to full fitness, it leaves Postecoglou a little short with Stephen Welsh and Christopher Jullien the main options for cover. The latter still has question marks over his future after a proposed move to Schalke broke down.

The defender spent five years in the youth ranks at English Premier League new boys Fulham before departing Craven Cottage for a move to Switzerland in 2020.
He earned a move to France with Lorient last summer, but featured just 20 times in all competitions with 17 of those appearances coming in the league. They finished the domestic season in 16th position.
But he is now ready to move on once again, with Celtic set to land the defender. He is under contract at his current club for a further four years until 2026.
It's a big season at Parkhead as the Hoops look to retain the Premiership title they won back from Rangers last season.
Champions League football is also heading to Glasgow's east end next season with Postecoglou and Co already in the group stages of Europe's premier competition.
They kick off their league title defence in less than two weeks time against Aberdeen.
