Anderlecht have reportedly joined the race to sign Giorgos Giakoumakis.
The Celtic striker is set to leave Parkhead before the transfer window closes on Tuesday after contract talks with the club broke down. Atlanta United were favourites to sign the Greek, but a straight loan deal wasn’t acceptable to the Hoops, who knocked back the offer from the MLS franchise.
Big spending Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan have also been tracking Giakoumakis, but now there is fresh interest from Belgium, with Anderlecht in the market for a new front man. They recently lost Wolves loanee Fabio Silva after the striker was recalled by the English Premier League side and sent to PSV, leaving a space in their squad for a striker. Now La Gazzetta Express claim that the Brussels-based outfit are looking at the Celtic forward as a potential replacement, although are yet to make a concrete offer for him.
Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou, who has refused to rule out more transfer incomings, left Giakoumakis out of his squad for the Scottish Cup win over Greenock Morton last Saturday. He’ll assess the situation before deciding whether he will feature against Dundee United this weekend.
He said: "There is still a fair bit of speculation around him and until something gets resolved, either way, then from my perspective it's about seeing how he is training and how he is feeling about things," Postecoglou said. "Again we will assess it for the weekend."
