Celtic are set for a late July trip to Japan - with 65,000 fans anticipated inside the Nissan Stadium for showdowns expected to involve Yokohama F. Marinos, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.
It was reported in February that the Hoops are set for a trip to the Land of the Rising Sun, with Ange Postecoglou returning to face former side Yokohama F. Marinos in a pre-season tournament involving some of Europe's best. Celtic have long had a global fanbase but Postecoglou's move to Glasgow's east end has taken things to another level in Australia and Japan. His acquisition of various J-League household names, including Kyogo, Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda, has shot their profile up in the far east.
Now Nikan Sports say both Celtic and City are expected in the country in late July as part of their final pre-season preparations. Sponichi previously stated that plans were in the works for clashes against Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich although it's unclear how the tournament will be structured at this stage.
Yokohama are owned by the City Football Group, with Manchester City also under the umbrella, while Postecoglou's Yokohama side, who won the J-League, were previously praised to the hilt by Pep Guardiola. After City beat them 3-1, he said: “Yokohama played some incredible football and they were an incredible test for us. I knew how good they were and it was tough for us. It was a great test. They had amazing quality, they were quick and technical."
