Celtic 'to throw out £15.5m' Matt O'Riley Atalanta transfer bid

Atalanta have submitted a last-ditch transfer bid to sign Matt O'Riley, according to reports.

It's claimed the Serie A club have upped their offer to sign the midfielder from Celtic this summer.

The Scottish Sun reports Atalanta have tabled a deal worth in the region of £15.5m for O'Riley after seeing previous offers rejected.

However, it's claimed Celtic chiefs will throw out the most recent bid.

An initial bid this summer was rejected by Celtic with the club holding out for a record fee for the midfielder.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano added: "Atalanta have sent new bid for Matt O’Riley worth €17/18m package.

"Celtic want more as club sources confirm but negotiations are underway to make it happen."

Brendan Rodgers hailed O'Riley after the 4-0 win over DC United in which the playmaker netted twice as he captained the Celtic side.

And the Parkhead boss insisted O'Riley's "first-class attitude" has not changed despite the speculation over a summer transfer exit.

“His attitude has been first class,” Rodgers said about Saturday evening’s captain. “There’s absolutely been no change in Matt’s demeanor. I think he knows the privileges of playing for Celtic and he knows what Celtic has given him. It’s not a burden for him to be at Celtic, he has developed into a fantastic player.

“When you do what, there’s always going to be speculation and interest,” he added. “You will always work on improving and developing him. He has a first class attitude, he knows what the situation is and captained the team tonight. He’s a fantastic professional.”
