Celtic to pay Rennes less than initially expected for Jota

Celtic will pay less for Jota than initially believed, according to reports.

French outlet Ouest France claims that the Parkhead side will shell out €8m (£6.7m) for the Portuguese winger, €2m (£1.7m) less than what was previously reported by Fabrizio Romano.

The 25-year-old is already in Glasgow ahead of completing an emotional return to Celtic.

Jota made 83 appearances for the Scottish Premiership champions the first time around, contributing to 54 goals and winning five trophies, including a treble with Ange Postecoglou.

He will now work under Brendan Rodgers after joining from French top-flight side Rennes, with Kyogo Furuhashi going the other way.

Celtic don't want the sale of the Japanese centre-forward to be made official until they complete the acquisition of Jota, though, with both signings set to be announced in tandem.

Losing Furuhashi and his attributes will undoubtedly be a blow to Rodgers and Co, but the Parkhead side will be delighted to welcome Jota back to the club, particularly on a permanent basis.

He can't play in Wednesday's Champions League match against Aston Villa, with his second debut potentially coming against Motherwell at the weekend.
