West Ham United have opened negotiations to secure young Celtic forward Daniel Cummings on a pre-contract agreement, according to multiple reports.
The 18-year-old, whose contract with Celtic expires in the summer, has attracted significant interest from clubs south of the border.
It was suggested last week that Portsmouth had held discussions with the striker over a potential move to Fratton Park, but it now appears that West Ham have surged ahead in the race for his signature.
Cummings, a highly regarded prospect within Celtic’s academy system, has impressed at youth level and featured for the club’s B team in the Lowland League.

Although first-team opportunities at Parkhead have been limited, his performances have not gone unnoticed, with several English clubs monitoring his situation.
He featured as a second half substitute during Celtic’s recent UEFA Champions League match against Aston Villa, showing the trust manager Brendan Rodgers does have in him.
It’s believed that Celtic were keen to tie Cummings down on a new contract, but it’s well documented interested parties can land the player for around £300,000 in cross-border training compensation.
