Benjamin Siegrist would be Rangers No1 rather than sitting on the bench at Celtic if Giovanni van Bronckhorst had moved for the keeper.
That's the opinion of former Hoops striker Charlie Nicholas who believes Allan McGregor's 'awful performance' against Liverpool in the Champions League showed it is the 'one glaring weakness' at the Ibrox side.
The Dutchman started out the season with Jon McLaughlin as his first choice with veteran keeper McGregor - who penned a one year deal in the summer - as his deputy. However, after injury to the former Hearts goalie and some solid displays by the 40-year-old fans' favourite, he reclaimed his spot for the Ibrox men. Rangers were linked with the former Dundee United goalkeeper back in January on a pre-contract agreement, but decided against a move with Ange Postecoglou swooping for the Swiss stopper to provide competition for Joe Hart.

Nicholas believes the goalkeeping situation at Rangers would have been solved had they recruited the 31-year-old, rather than him sitting on the bench at their Old Firm rivals.
Writing in his Scottish Daily Express column, he said: "I remember last season there was some talk of Rangers being interested in Benji Siegrist.
"If they had followed up properly the ex-Dundee United keeper would be No.1 at Ibrox now rather than sitting on the Celtic bench.
"I am amazing that Gio van Bronckhorst didn't go out and get a new goalkeeper. It was the one glaring weakness and it was shown by Allan McGregor's awful performance against Liverpool.
"Losing 7-1 was a humiliation the stark reality of where they are."
