Celtic suffer UEFA Youth League defeat to RB Leipzig

Celtic's youth team suffered a 2-0 defeat to RB Leipzig this afternoon in the UEFA Youth League.

The result severely dents the young Hoops' chances of qualifying for the playoff round of the competition.

Two goals within the first 15 minutes were enough to secure the victory for the visitors.

Bundesliga U19s star Simon Schierack opened the scoring for the Germans, with the midfielder firing a brilliant finish into the top corner.

Stephen McManus' men almost replied instantly when Rocco Vata went through on goal and had a shot, but his attempt was parried away by the opposition goalkeeper.

Moments later, however, RB Leipzig were two goals to the good after a well-worked move was finished off by forward Ohene Kwame Bonsu Kohl, who netted his second goal in four games in the premier European youth competition.

The game effectively ended as a contest just before half-time when Bhoys midfielder Kenzie Carse picked up a second yellow card to put the home team down to 10 men.

Celtic's young guns did come close to scoring in the second half when Adam Brooks got on the end of a cross, but his glancing header went just wide of the target but overall, they posed little threat to the Germans after this as the visitors finished comfortable winners.

The Hoops now have two games remaining in the tournament, a home match against Shakhtar Donetsk and a trip to Spain to face Real Madrid.

It will be a tough ask for McManus' side to make it through as they will most likely need two wins as well as other results in the group to go their way.
