Celtic 'submit bid' for Dundee captain Luke McCowan

Celtic have made an official approach to Dundee over captain Luke McCowan.

Various reports say the Scottish Premiership champions have entered talks with the Dens Park side over a potential transfer.

Sky Sports say an approach has been made for the 26-year-old, while BBC Sport claims a bid has been submitted, but no deal has been agreed.

The central midfielder has been the subject of strong interest from Hibs in this window.

The Easter Road side had bids of around £750,000 rejected by their league rivals. It's understood they have made an improved offer this evening, as Dundee hold out for £1m for the player who has less than a year left on his contract.

Brendan Rodgers is still on the lookout for players to strengthen his squad ahead of tonight's 11pm deadline.

And it looks like the Northern Irishman could be a busy man with McCowan potentially on the way in at Celtic Park, as well as Auston Trusty and Arne Engels.

Mikey Johnston has completed his permanent move to West Brom, while Tomoki Iwata is headed for Birmingham City on loan as the League One side continues its swoop on Scottish football.

Meanwhile, Rodgers has vowed that Celtic will be stronger come the end of the transfer window this evening.

“We're in a really good place in terms of that and we hope by the close of the market this evening," Rodgers said. "We'll have a number signed and sealed and making our squad stronger. I think that's always the goal.

“I've said that we want to make the team and squad stronger and hopefully we can close the market and that is the case.

“That is certainly that's the aim. I think we don't want to just regenerate the squad, we want to improve the squad. And I believe that come the end that will be the case.

“There's been a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes and of course things sometimes don't happen until later on, either through availability or a club not wanting to sell a player."
