Celtic star who made debut under Postecoglou looks ahead after injury nightmare

Celtic ran out 6-4 winners against Queen's Park in an entertaining pre-season friendly on Wednesday, on a night when Brendan Rodgers utilised his matchday squad to the fullest.

All told, the manager introduced 12 players from the visitors' bench including a raft of young talent – not least 18-year-old Francis Turley, who scored Celtic's sixth and final goal of the night.

Another fringe player who started alongside Stephen Welsh in the heart of the Hoops' defence was Dane Murray.

Handed his debut in a UEFA Champions League qualifier against FC Midtjylland in 2021 (then having just turned 18) under former manager Ange Postecoglou, Murray was in and around the first-team squad during the 2021/22 campaign.

A serious knee injury sustained while playing for the Celtic B team ruled him out for a year, with the defender returning to action in April 2023.

Murray featured against Ayr United last week, and started against Queen's Park. After the latter, the 21-year-old spoke to Celtic TV.

He said: "It was good to get minutes in the legs again. First half, we did well but I think we came into the second half and, in the first 15 minutes, showed what we can do.

"In pre-season, these are the games that you want to be tested. Queen's Park knew what they wanted to do, they were playing against Celtic so they wanted to impose themselves in the game. It's going to be a long season, so starting off on the right foot is important."
