Celtic star Jota helps young Scots fan announce he is cancer free

A Celtic star has helped a young fan announce he is officially cancer free in a video released on social media.

Ryan Thomson was accompanied by his hero Jota as he revealed the good news online after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in February this year.

The 14-year-old has undergone four rounds of chemo therapy and received some welcome news earlier this week, sharing the announcement on Instagram on Thursday.

Glasgow Live reports that in the video, the hoops winger stood with his arm around Ryan and congratulated him on being cancer free as well as 'having an amazing life ahead of him'.

The young teen had a big grin on his face as his hero made the announcement.

The video was posted by Ryan's uncle Geo, who has helped fundraise to support the family through the tough time.

Ryan was an active teen, playing football and training six days a week. He plays for his community team at Stenhousemuir and has taken up boxing, running and is a keen climber amongst other sports.

Ryan's mum, Audrey, noticed at the start of the year that the young boy was not himself, as his performance on the pitch was declining and he was lacking energy to even play his Xbox or go out with his friends.

Ryan is an identical twin and the differences between him and his brother, Kyle, were widening as Ryan struggled to keep up with the activities that he and his twin adored to compete at.

A GoFundMe was set up earlier this year, to help support the family and Ryan in 'fighting a battle that no child should have to fight'. It also proposed to help Ryan get his dream of a man cave in this garden for him chill out in his own space, a dream that began to come true in June this year as funds were released and Ryan's man cave started to be built.
