Mossend Football Club have lost one of their most promising starlets - but they couldn’t be happier for Jack Thomson as he signs for Premiership giants Celtic.
The young striker has turned out for the youth club’s 2008 level side and his exploits in attack have caught the eye of the Hoops.
He now swaps the black and yellow of Mossend for Celtic’s green and white, having left the club to sign a pro youth deal.
He joins a growing list of Lanarkshire players currently at Parkhead, including Wishaw’s David Turnbull at first-team level and Rocco Vata in the ‘B’ team.
Others include Stephen Welsh, Ben Summers and Jude Bonnar.
Mossend have shipped young players to pro youth clubs before but few have reached the heights of one of the nation’s biggest teams. It’s an achievement which has delighted all facets of the club.
A club statement on Thomson reads: “All at Mossend Football Club would like to wish Jack Thomson all the luck in the world, after signing his pro youth contract with Celtic Football Club.
“Jack has played for Mossend 2008’s for over six years and will be a huge loss to the club. Well done to all coaches in Jack’s development over the years.
“The harder you work for something, the greater you’ll feel when you achieve it. Well done, Jack.”
Long-serving volunteer Billy McQueen has performed many roles with Mossend, stretching back over 10 years and he said: “Totally delighted for you Jack. Best wishes from everyone at Mossend FC.”
Mark Whitley is the coach at Thomson’s 2008 side and he is thrilled to see one of his young stars go to bigger things, adding: “Everyone at the 08’ s are so proud!
“It is a fantastic achievement and if you keep showing the same brilliant attitude and dedication, you’ll go far!”
