Celtic skip Bodo Glimt pitch preparation amid weather warning as Parkhead club go down Roma route

It's being reported Celtic have cancelled a planned training session on Bodo/Glimt's artificial pitch with the weather to turn nasty.

Ange Postecoglou takes his side to Norway for the second leg of their Europa Conference League play-off on Thursday as they look to overturn a 3-1 defeat at Parkhead.

The Norwegian champions are based within the Arctic Circle, with brings with it a number of weather-related challenges.

According to NRK, the conditions are expected to be grim on Wednesday, when the visiting team would usually train on the host pitch.

High winds are expected, with gusts of up to 45mph, as well as sleet showers and potentially thunderstorms.

The website reports Celtic have therefore decided to forego their session on the artificial turf.

And the website's football expert Carl-Erik Torp thinks that could be a bad move after Jose Mourinho and Roma took a similar decision only to lose 6-1.

He said: "It's a strange decision by Celtic. They should have learned from Roma.

"I assume it is an assessment in relation to the sporting benefits of training under the weather conditions that have been forecast.

"But there is a huge difference in the surface at Celtic Park and Aspmyra. It does not get them acclimatised before the match itself.

"Bodo/Glimt have a good chance of going through.

"They have a good lead and they showed an impressive calm and security in the game against Celtic at home. They'll probably only get even more energy from a full Aspmyra."

The weather for the match is also expected to be bitter, with the wind chill making it feel like -5°c on the pitch.
