Celtic shares ‘Best in Scotland x Best in the World’ footage of WWE star’s visit

WWE superstar CM Punk thrilled wrestling fans at a sold-out OVO Hydro in Glasgow on Monday night, delivering a performance that showcased why he remains one of the biggest names in professional wrestling.

However, it was his visit to Celtic Park the following day that truly won over a section of the city’s football supporters.

The Chicago-born wrestler, widely regarded as one of the greatest in the industry, was given a tour of Celtic’s iconic stadium, with the club sharing behind-the-scenes footage captioned: ‘Best in Scotland x Best in the World’.

Punk, a ten-time champion across multiple promotions - including two WWE Championships and three World Heavyweight titles - looked right at home as he explored the Hoops’ rich history.

His affinity with Celtic comes after a long-running feud with Scottish wrestler Drew McIntyre, a well-known Rangers supporter.

Now, Punk has seemingly chosen his side in Glasgow’s football rivalry, embracing Celtic as his favourite European club.

He proudly donned a Hoops shirt and belt ahead of his WWE bout at the Hydro and was later spotted at Celtic Park wearing a personalised jersey reading “Best in the World” with the No. 1.

His enthusiasm was evident as he admired Celtic’s extensive silverware collection and first team dressing room, adding another memorable moment to his trip to Scotland.

Asked what it was about Brendan Rodgers' side that captured his heart, Punk told Celtic TV: "I just think the history of Celtic. As much as I've tried to do a deep dive into it being an ignorant American newbie. You know we call it soccer, and it's football.

"The first thing that jumps off the page for me is the colours. I'm half Irish, so green is probably my second favourite colour. And just the history of the team, reading up on it, the rivalry between Rangers and Celtic.

"American sports go back, especially baseball, but I think football in Europe has such a longer history, so it's cool to see a lot of the similarities between football and my favourite sport, hockey. A lot of similarities, a lot of differences, but there's just so much history.

"If sixty thousand people are coming every game to see something then I want to know what that's about. So, I just try and do as much research as I possibly can."
