Celtic Seville great Alan Thompson was gutted not to be at Old Trafford for Celtic Legends’ clash with Manchester United Legends on Saturday.
The Hoops emerged victorious from the charity match in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in normal time.
Wayne Rooney rolled back the years to open the scoring with a sublime free kick in the first half, but Gary Hooper responded after the break, tapping into an empty net after Stiliyan Petrov’s long-range effort rattled the cross bar.
The likes of Jonny Hayes, Mikael Lustig, Artur Boruc, and Charlie Mulgrew turned out for the Bhoys, but Thompson has questioned why he wasn’t asked to pull on the famous green and white shirt once again.
The 50-year-old, who made over 150 Hoops appearances during a seven-year spell in Glasgow, took to X on Sunday night and let his thoughts be known.
“Devasted when you don’t get invited to Celtic’s Legends game versus Manchester United at Old Trafford,” he said.
“But hey-ho, life goes on. [They] must have some serial winners to pick from.”

Thompson was a key figure in Celtic’s famous run to the UEFA Cup final in Seville 21 years ago.
Although he was disappointed not to roll back the years at the weekend, he can still look back on a memorable Celtic spell with utmost fondness.
Perhaps Thompson’s social media outburst could see him be invited to the Celts’ next charity match.
