Celtic will make their 12th trip to England for a European competition on Wednesday night, continuing a unique cross-border rivalry that has brought mixed results over the years.
Their record stands at three wins, five losses, and three draws, with one of those games being an unusual ‘home’ match held in England.
That memorable encounter came in 1984, when Celtic were forced by UEFA to replay their European Cup-Winners’ Cup second-round tie against Rapid Vienna at Old Trafford.
Officially a home game, it ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat in front of 51,500 fans.
