Celtic's first Japan pre-season tour friendly confirmed as Ange Postecoglou faces old club

Ange Postecoglou will come up his former club as the first opponents in Celtic's tour of Japan.

The Hoops will face Yokohama F. Marinos at the Nissan Stadium on Wednesday, July 19 as the back-to-back Scottish Premiership champions finalise plans ahead of the new season as they bid to go for three-in-a-row and make a splash in the Champions League.

The fixture will also be a special occasion for attacker Daizen Maeda, who will come up against his old side 18 months on from his departure for Glasgow. On the fixture being confirmed, Postecoglou said: “I’m delighted to be taking Celtic to Japan this summer and it’s a tour made even more special by the prospect of facing my old team, Yokohama F. Marinos. It’s a great club that holds some special memories for me and I look forward to meeting up with friends there in July.”

Maeda, speaking via the Celitc official website added: “I’m really looking forward to our pre-season visit to Japan and in particular, returning to play against Yokohama F. Marinos.

“It is a club which has played a major role in my career and, of course, it will be a pleasure to return home with Celtic and see my friends at the club and the Marinos supporters.”

Celtic still have plenty to play for this season before turning any thoughts towards pre-season. The Scottish Premiership title was added to the League Cup triumph at the weekend with Invereness now standing between the Hoops and a domestic Treble this campaign.

Postecoglou and Co are also still on course to smash further records this season with the first of the final four games against Old Firm rivals Rangers this weekend at Ibrox.
