Celtic rule out Aberdeen postponement as club vow to play on despite potential World Cup absences

Celtic won't be asking the SPFL to postpone their clash with Aberdeen even if their players go deep into the World Cup in Qatar.

Four Parkhead stars will take part in the last 16 in Qatar with Josip Juranovic, Aaron Mooy, Daizen Maeda and Cameron Carter-Vickers all representing their respective countries. Their game with Aberdeen is currently pencilled in for December 17, which falls on the day of the third-place playoff and one day before the final in Qatar - and just days after the semi-finals.

With all of Celtic 's four on the same side of the draw and Croatia set to face Japan at the first hurdle, it's a practical impossibility that enough of their players could end up in the semi-finals to merit a postponement - with SPFL rules requiring three or more to be missing. In any case, Postecoglou says it won't be happening - and they'll play on even if any of his boys pull off a fairytale run to the last four.

When asked about the possibility of a postponement, he responded: "Yeah, they'd have to make the World Cup final (for that to be a problem)...

"Without diminishing our boys' chances, we'll definitely be playing Aberdeen when it's scheduled. No fear in that."
