Celtic reveal seven candidates for Player of the Year award

Celtic have officially unveiled the seven contenders for the club’s prestigious Player of the Year award — and the shortlist highlights the quality and consistency that have defined Brendan Rodgers’ side this season.

Since Rodgers returned to the Parkhead dugout, replacing Ange Postecoglou nearly two years ago, Celtic have continued to thrive under his leadership. The Northern Irishman has maintained the high standard set in the pursuit of domestic dominance, with this season’s shortlist reflecting the strong core of players who have flourished in his system.

Among the names announced, two frontrunners are already emerging in the form of Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn. Both players have delivered decisive contributions throughout the year, with Maeda’s relentless pressing, work rate, and ability to step up in big moments underlining his value to the Rodgers setup.

Kuhn's flair, directness and eye for goal have added an extra spark to Celtic’s attacking options, helping the team through key fixtures - particularly during the opening period of the campaign. He has 18 goals and 14 assists to show for his efforts this time around.

The rest of the nominees underline the balance and depth Rodgers has built into his squad.

Matt O'Riley won Celtic Player of the Year for the 2023/24 season.

Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel’s experience and composure have brought assurance between the posts, while Alistair Johnston’s tough tackling and relentless energy down the right flank have made him a fixture in the backline.

Cameron Carter-Vickers once again earns recognition for his commanding displays at the heart of the defence, while captain Callum McGregor’s leadership and influence in midfield remain as vital as ever in a side full of attacking flair.

Reo Hatate’s technical brilliance and creativity round out a group of candidates who have all played significant roles in the club’s pursuit of silverware.

Voting is now open, with the winner to be announced at Celtic’s annual awards ceremony — one of the highlights of the club calendar, as players, staff and supporters come together to celebrate another thrilling season under Rodgers.

Celtic already have one hand on the Scottish Premiership title having already beaten Rangers to lift the Scottish League Cup before Christmas. And they can even achieve another domestic treble. Rodgers' men take on St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup semi-finals at Hampden Park this weekend.
