Celtic release statement on Vaclav Cerny incident and 'policing operation'

Celtic have this evening released a statement regarding events both before and during the club's clash with Rangers yesterday.

Brendan Rodgers' side lost 3-2 as goals from Nicolas Raskin, Mohamed Diomande, and Hamza Igamane proved crucial.

After Igamane's winner, Rangers winger Vaclav Cerny, who had earlier in the match been substituted off, could be seen spraying a section of Celtic supporters with water as he ran down the touchline to celebrate.

Tonight, the Parkhead club has spoken out on the incident, as they also touched on events which happened outside of Celtic Park, where a group of supporters were refused entry to the stadium.

A statement read: "Celtic Football Club has received complaints regarding the policing operation concerning yesterday’s match, specifically events away from Celtic Park.

"We are reviewing our supporters’ concerns and will be looking into these issues.

"It is important that these matters are addressed and the Club will be engaging in discussions with supporters and Police Scotland to understand the circumstances and events.

"With regards to the match at Celtic Park, we can also confirm that the Club has raised concerns regarding members of the away team engaging with Celtic supporters with the relevant authorities."

Rodgers' side returns to action after the international break when they welcome Heart of Midlothian to Glasgow's east end.
